The ‘rose garden’ that glows red at sunset above Bolzano and Val di Fassa.

How to see it

The best sunset views of the Catinaccio are from Bolzano, from Passo Costalunga and from Lago di Carezza. Inside the group, paths lead to the Vajolet Towers from Rifugio Gardeccia above Pera di Fassa.

Where to stay

Vigo di Fassa, Pera di Fassa, Carezza and Tires. Compare the valleys in which Dolomites valley to stay in.

When to go

Summer for the huts and the Vajolet Towers; in winter the Carezza ski area lies below its south-western flank.

Good to know

Legend has it that King Laurin cursed his rose garden so it could be seen neither by day nor by night, but forgot the moments in between. That is why the rock still glows red at dawn and dusk, the ‘enrosadira’.
