The unmistakable wall at the head of Val Gardena, circled by a classic hut-to-hut walk and by the Sella Ronda in winter.
How to see it
The Sassolungo rises above Val Gardena and Alpe di Siusi. A classic summer circuit loops all the way around it from Passo Sella, past Rifugio Vicenza and the Sassopiatto. In winter, the Sella Ronda passes right below it.
Where to stay
Selva, Santa Cristina, Ortisei and Campitello di Fassa. Compare the valleys in which Dolomites valley to stay in.
When to go
Year-round: skiing below it in winter, the circuit walk in summer.
Good to know
With its neighbour the Sassopiatto, the Sassolungo is one of the most recognisable shapes in the Dolomites, visible from much of South Tyrol.
